Here are six venues offering delicious local fare:
Le Hatley, a 5-star restaurant at the award-winning Hovey Manor is famous for its refined cuisine. (The hotel is the only member in Eastern Canada of the prestigious, Paris-based, Relais & Châteaux network.) Chef Alexandre Vachon heads the culinary team and his passion is the local terroir and the producers who create the local ingredients he incorporates into Le Hatley’s menus.
Le Riverain is an elegant, upscale restaurant situated within the Ripplecove Hotel & Spa on the shores of Lake Massawippi. Chef Steeve Rondeau, who has 30 years of culinary experience behind him, oversees the kitchen, designing menus featuring creative, regional dishes that change with the seasons. Master Sommelier Mari Lou Lecoz suggests wine pairings to go with the delicious cuisine.
The restaurant at the Auberge Ayer’s Cliff offers a varied menu ranging from simple, familiar dishes to more exotic cuisine. The dining area has a warm, welcoming ambience – perfect for a meal with friends, an intimate tête-à-tête or with a group. Live entertainment in the evenings.
La Taverne 1855 is the brainchild of chef Éric Garand and sommelier Jinny Dufour, whose expertise and passion for good food and wine led them to create this culinary mecca in the heart of downtown Magog. Their menu, which changes according to what’s available locally in any given season, is designed with appropriate wine pairings – truly a gourmet destination!
The Tomahawk Grill is a favourite with lovers of red meat. (The grill is named after a cut of beef referred to as a tomahawk or rib-eye steak.) This high-end steakhouse is part of the Estrimont Suites and Spa in Orford (Cherry River) where Chef Badr Bourabaa delights in creating unique dishes using only the highest quality ingredients. The restaurant is divided into a number of different areas – from intimate spaces to a terrace where diners can gather with a group of friends.
At Étoile-sur-le-Lac’s restaurant, diners can enjoy cuisine inspired by the Mediterranean but made with local ingredients – products of the Eastern Townships’ terroir, a combination of the weather, growing conditions and the terrain. The terrace at L’Ancrage (« The Anchorage ») offers one of the best views in Magog overlooking majestic Lake Memphremagog where you can watch the world go by. Perhaps you’ll be lucky enough to spot Memphré, the lake’s resident monster!
