Local flavours road trips in the Heart of the Townships!

Summer 2020 will be memorable! With pandemic requirements, our traditional summer holidays will taste different. And speaking of taste, why not discover the gourmet treasures of our beautiful region? To taste the Eastern Townships to the fullest, three chefs, who are well involved in their environment, offer you a simple recipe where local food and businesses are showcased.

The concept of gourmet road trips is to tour the region, to stop and meet producers to buy all the ingredients in order to cook a simple and tasty recipe once back home. So put your cooler in the car, let’s go!

Hot duck by chef Éric Garand of the Taverne 1855

At the Tavern 1855, everything is homemade and the products used by the chef are only local and quality products. Culinary works vary with the seasons, depending on the arrivals. With this Hot Duck recipe, chef Éric Garand offers a tasty and simple recipe with ingrediants from 5 Memphremagog agri-food producers. 

There are not only dishes that are of an unparalleled quality, the selection of wines is also meticulously made by Jinny, house sommelier, and is, at all times, perfectly arranged on the menu!


REALLY INSPIRING RIDE!

1st stop: Ducs de Montrichard

Ducs de Montrichard, c’est une entreprise artisanale et familiale qui pDucs de Montrichard is an artisanal family business that prepares a wide variety of 100% duck rillettes, game terrines, foie gras products, jellies and fresh meat. Their famous foie gras crème brûlée is also widely popular. 

Their products are processed without gluten, pork or chemical preservatives. Their shop is securely accessible to get you the duck confit for the recipe. And hop, we’re on the road!

2nd stop: Chez Dora bakery 

Existing for more than 60 years, Chez Dora has become more than a traditional donut. Now it is also a local food shop and offers more than 130 bakery, pastry and ready-to-eat products. 

Based in the former Eastman Junior High School in 1876, the bakery managed to keep original recipes from its founder – Aldora Bolduc – in order to make fresh, hand-made products from quality local raw ingredients. Get the delicious cheese and bacon bread for the recipe right away.

3rd stop: Gourmet by Nature

Located on 62 acres of land on the shores of Lake Memphremagog, Gourmet par Nature cultivates sea buckthorn plants that they transform on site into pure jelly but also into fresh juices, smoothies and other gelatos and sorbets. 

They also sell their frozen fruit. At their shop, you will find a great selection of infused olive oils, balsamic vinegars from Modena and fine spices from all over the world. For the recipe, go for frozen fruit or sea buckthorn jelly.

4th stop: La Ferme Potagère

La Ferme Potagère grows their crops in an ecological way for a variety of fruits and vegetables. Blueberry and pumpkin picking is offered in season. The farm also sells other processed products made with the pork from their farm. 

Stop by the on-site kiosk to buy fresh produce, such as seasonal vegetables, for the recipe.

5th stop: Bleu Lavande

Bleu Lavande is the pioneer of Quebec’s lavender culture and is one of the largest lavender producers in Canada. In their products, you will find especially their essential oil, composed of 100% Lavandula Angustifolia (fine lavender), the lavender of the best quality. 

The fields are open to visit for the summer season. The blooms extend from July to September, thanks to the flowering of the lavender species being cultivated there. A summer experience not to be missed! After your visit, stop by the shop to get the lavender tea.
